Chau Pui-yin is a talented accordionist of Hong Kong with fascinating performing technique. Guy. Vivier, French accordion critic once remarked that Chau was a creative, individual, virtuosic, musical and top-ranked performer.

Chau founded the Accordion Troupe Hong Kong thirty years ago. It has performed over 400 concerts in performing venues of the LCSD on a regular basis. Besides performing, Chau has written and arranged a repertoire of around 100 works for accordion, amongst which The Train Dashing Through Miao Mountain Camp, The Butterfly Lovers, The Countryside, The Love of Yi Tribe and Tango Under the Blue Sky have been designated pieces for accordion examinations and concerts in many places.

Chau gives solo concerts in many countries around the world. He has adjudicated accordion competitions in Russia, in addition to singing contests and melodeon competitions in Hong Kong. Chau is the Champion of the 15th International Competition Accordion Society of Australia and has been awarded the “Outstanding Musician, U. S. A.” He was also named one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons in 1994”, “Man of the Year (1994)” in the United States in 1995 and the “Outstanding Professional, U. S. A. of the 20th Century”. Young accordionists from the Mainland come to Hong Kong for private tuition from Chau.

Chau is at present the Chief of the Accordion Troupe Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Folk Song Dance Company, the Deputy Leader of the International Society of Accordion, the Consultant of the Cultural Association of Music & Arts and a member of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong.
