About Us
Accordion Troupe Hong Kong was founded in 1983 by Mr. Chau Pui-yin, the renowned accordionist, with an aim of popularizing and promoting accordion music. The ensemble performs at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and town halls in various districts with an assorted repertoire. Under the leadership of Mr. Chau Pui-yin, the ensemble explores new techniques and styles that preserve Western folk music style as well as Chinese musical expressiveness.
The ensemble has excellent achievements in the development and promotion of the accordion. It has performed over 400 concerts, conducted courses and participated in international accordion competitions and exchange tours. It has collaborated with many famous accordionists and conductors. Its ensemble repertoire includes Teufelstritt, L'Amour Est Bleu, El Campillo, Kindersinfonie, Die Italienerin in Algier, Atlantic-fox, My Heart Will Go On, The Final Countdown and Harmonika-Festouverture; while other critically acclaimed adapted works include Chinese Folk Song, The Masquerade, Reflection of the Moon on the Waters, The Train Dashing Through the Miao Mountain Camp, The Butterfly Lovers, Romance d 'Amour, etc. The ensemble has repeatedly won awards for its repertoire which circulates around Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia and Mainland China.
The ensemble has performed with many famous pop singers at TVB anniversaries and appeared on television and radio with great popularity for the promotion of accordion music. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, it represented Hong Kong to tour Sichuan and was warmly welcomed by Mr. Henry Tang Ying-yen. It has performed in Mainland China many times and received extensive attention. |
